FAQ

How long does a Charcoal Kiln take to make tar in Enshrouded?
One batch takes six minutes and yields 20 tar.
What materials does a Charcoal Kiln need for tar?
Each batch requires 30 wood logs and 6 dirt.
How do I put out a campfire to get its tar?
There is no extinguish option, but attacking the campfire, such as repeatedly with a wand, puts it out so you can collect one piece of tar.

Crafting tar in a Charcoal Kiln

The main way to get tar is to craft it in a Charcoal Kiln. The kiln unlocks after you have the Blacksmith, and building it requires 20 stone.

Each batch consumes 30 wood logs and 6 dirt, takes six minutes, and produces 20 tar. If you place more materials in the kiln, you can build up a tar-making queue.

  1. Unlock the Blacksmith.
  2. Build a Charcoal Kiln using 20 stone.
  3. Add 30 wood logs and 6 dirt to the kiln.
  4. Wait six minutes for the batch to finish and collect 20 tar.
  5. Add more materials to queue additional batches.

Making tar from cooked food

You can also turn food into tar at a fire. Once a piece of food is fully cooked, keep holding it in the fire and it will soon turn into tar.

Mushrooms are a practical choice for this method because they are plentiful in Embervale, so you are not using up valuable food.

  1. Cook a piece of food at a fire until it is fully cooked.
  2. Keep holding the cooked food in the fire.
  3. Wait for it to turn into tar.

Collecting tar from an extinguished campfire

An extinguished campfire holds one piece of tar that you can collect once the fire is out. Campfires have no extinguish option, but you can put the fire out by attacking it; for example, aiming a wand at the campfire and attacking repeatedly will cause it to go out.

  1. Attack the campfire, such as by repeatedly attacking it with a wand, until the fire goes out.
  2. Collect one piece of tar from the extinguished campfire.
