FAQ

Why can't I use my Grappling Hook in Enshrouded?
Check three things: the hook is equipped on your character rather than sitting in inventory, you are aiming at a valid Grappling Hook Anchor, and you have enough Stamina. The basic hook needs at least 40 Stamina.
What button do you press to grapple in Enshrouded?
Walk toward a grapple point until the interact prompt appears, then press the interact button: E on keyboard or Y on an Xbox controller by default.
What is the difference between a Pull Anchor and a Swing Anchor?
A Pull Anchor draws you toward it and is usually on top of a ledge. A Swing Anchor lets you swing across a gap and is usually mounted on a ceiling or crossbeam above it.
Does the Grappling Hook break or lose durability?
No. The Grappling Hook has no durability meter, so you do not need to worry about it breaking.
Is the Improved Grappling Hook better than the basic one?
It reduces Stamina cost from 40 to 30 and has a slightly longer activation range, so it is more forgiving to use.

Equip the Grappling Hook before you try to grapple

The Grappling Hook only works once it is equipped on your character. Carrying it in your inventory is not enough, so open the pause menu and equip it manually. Assigning it to your hotbar also equips it automatically.

The hook is essential traversal equipment: it lets you reach more of the map and unlock key areas, including Vaults. It is also needed to climb to higher levels or swing across gaps, while the Glider covers long-distance travel and safe descent.

  1. Open the pause menu and equip the Grappling Hook on your character, or assign it to your hotbar so it equips automatically.
  2. Check that you have enough Stamina before attempting a grapple.
  3. Walk toward a Grappling Hook Anchor until an interact prompt appears over it.
  4. Press the interact button shown in the prompt: E on keyboard or Y on an Xbox controller by default.
  5. Jump off promptly when swinging so the hook does not detach you mid-gap.

Where the Grappling Hook works: anchors and grapple points

The Grappling Hook cannot be fired at any surface. It only attaches to specific points called Grappling Hook Anchors. While exploring, watch for shiny metallic anchors in the environment, such as the ones on Braelyn Bridge near the beginning of the game.

Anchors are a common feature in Ancient Spires, the large towers used for fast travel. Most Ancient Spires cannot be unlocked until you have a Grappling Hook, so craft one before exploring them.

Pull anchors vs. swing anchors

There are two kinds of grapple point, and they behave differently. A Grappling Hook Pull Anchor pulls you toward it in a straightforward arc and is typically found on top of ledges. A Grappling Hook Swing Anchor lets you swing across a gap and is most commonly attached to a ceiling or crossbeam above the gap.

You cannot stay attached to a swing point indefinitely. The game expects you to jump off to the other side as you swing, and it will detach you if you do not.

Stamina cost, durability and the Improved Grappling Hook

Grappling uses Stamina, and the basic Grappling Hook requires at least 40 Stamina. Attempting a grapple without enough Stamina can drop you, so check your bar before committing to a gap.

The Grappling Hook has no durability meter, so it does not break with use. The Improved Grappling Hook lowers the Stamina cost from 40 to 30 and has a slightly longer activation range, letting you trigger it from farther away from the anchor.
